The Chrichlow family moved to Elmont in 1975. Mr. Chrichlow’s work for constructive social change is exemplary. He is an active member of the Parkhurst Civic Association. He served as President for 12 years. He was a member of the Steering Committee for Elmont Community Day ‘95 and Elmont Community Week ‘97. He was a member of the Elmont Civilian Patrol and the Elementary School Health and Safety Committee. He served for eight years as a Lay Executive with the Lutheran Church. First as a National Coordinator of Cuban-Haitian Resettlement for the Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services, and then as Assistant Director of Urban Ministry for the Lutheran Church in America (LCA)
The Boy Scouts is an important part of his life. He began scouting as a boy in 1937 and earned the rank of Life Scout in Troop 219 at the First AME Zion Church in Brooklyn. He is a member of the Order of the Arrow Honor
Society. In adult leadership he served as Cubmaster, Scoutmaster, Committeeman, District Camping Chainnan and Member at Large of Stuyford District. For his devoted work with Troop 219 he was awarded an Oscar in 1952.
