The Elmont Union Free School District and the Sewanhaka Central High School District provide public education services for approximately seventy-five hundred students.

Dr, Ralph FerrieOn Tuesday evening, October 1, 2013, the Sewanhaka Central High School District Board of Education unanimously passed a resolution to conduct a bond referendum on December 4, 2013 for the purpose of renovating all five high school buildings, additions at Floral Park Memorial High School, Elmont Memorial High School, and Sewanhaka High School, and athletic facility upgrades at all schools and ATS.  I will be attending a future faculty meeting to review the details of the proposal.

The New York State School Boards Association compiled a spreadsheet outlining the immediate impact of sequestration on New York State School Districts.

Elmont Union Free School District ($81,144) and the Sewanhaka Central High School District ($137,878) will lose approximately $219, 022 while spending in excess of $250,000 in new teacher evaluation mandates passed down from Albany Lawmakers.

The following video was produced by an upstate Public School advocacy group. The group is often seen as hostile to Long Island when it comes to the distribution of "Shares" to public schools. Notwithstanding the Upstate v Downstate debate, the video is a clear representation of how Albany define "State Aid Increase"  You do the math, local School are loosing over half a million dollars to sequestration and new State mandates.

Six students from Elmont Memorial High School and Sewanhaka High School participated in the Fifth Annual Global Student Videoconference at the United Nations in Manhattan.  The conference titled "Forever Free: Celebrating Emancipation" was attended by over 500 students from around the world.

20130319 091441Schools in Senegal, Trinidad and Tobago, the United Kingdom, France and the United States shared presentations, had discussions and listened to scholars as part of a larger recognition and exploration of how the Trans-Atlantic slave trade still impacts the world today.

october2012studmon475Recognizing student contributions and success is important at Elmont Memorial High School.  Principal John Capozzi invited all of the October Students of the Month to his office to recognize their positive impact on the school and to give them their Student of the Month Award Certificate as well as a gift voucher for a free dessert at Applebees, a fresh baked cookie at Panera Bread and a $5.00 gift certificate for the Elmont Memorial High School Store.   Students are nominated by their academic content area teachers and Interdisciplinary Junior High Teams for aspects in academic achievement, showing character, respect, responsibility, caring and citizenship.
