At 2:00 PM this year's program is expanded to include the 1st Annual Round Table Discussion. This year’s topic is “Empowerment, Opportunity and Social Justice."
Attendees will have the opportunity to see selected original works from prominent African artists. These original and rarely viewed works will be on display at the Elmont Public Library during the month of February.
The mission of the Elmont Online Project is to enrich the lives of Elmont’s residents and visitors, to foster understanding among all cultures and to stimulate appreciation for the diversity of the Elmont experience. The site accomplishes its mission by inspiring the public to explore and embrace other cultural traditions.

The Round Table segment of Black History Month Celebration will be a thoughtful discussion on issues regarding empowerment, opportunity and social justice.
Panelists:
Tom Alfano has carved out a strong reputation regarding progressive government and social justice issues. The Drum Major Institute cited him as a top legislator who is "a fighter for the middle class." Assemblyman Alfano is widely known for his stances on issues regarding investment in education, equality and being an independent voice for communities. Assemblyman Alfano is the ranking member of the powerful Assembly Labor Committee as well as being a member of the Higher Education and Judiciary committees.
Randall Clarke has worked for Assemblyman Tom Alfano for almost three years. Randall is a product of our Elmont Schools and is currently attending Queens College. He was recently elected President of the Black Student Union at Queens College. He is a real role model, especially to his peers.
Marsha Darling is Professor of History and Interdisciplinary Studies and the Director of the Center for African American & Ethnic Studies Program at Adelphi University. She is a recognized scholar focused on the areas of race, gender and justice with relation to genetics and biotechnology, among other areas. She has published and presented extensively on these topics.
Hugh Hamilton is the executive producer and host of "TalkBack" on WBAI, 99.5 FM. He is a professional journalist of wide-ranging experience spanning some two decades in both print and broadcast media. He has traveled extensively on assignment to various parts of the world and for several years combined his journalistic expertise with a parallel career in legislative advocacy and community development for the New York City Council. Mr. Hamilton was born in Guyana and migrated to the United States in 1988.
