4th Grade Through College!
The 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament Committee announced today that divisions are now open for sign-ups! Forms can be requested by emailing This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The tournament is being held on July 9th at Dutch Broadway School, Elmont. The tip-off this year is at 9:30am and runs all day into the early evening.
Communities that take part in the tourney are: Elmont, Floral Park, North Valley Stream, Valley Stream, Franklin Square, West Hempstead, Stewart Manor, Bellerose Village, Bellerose Terrace, South Floral Park, Garden City South and New Hyde Park.
Last year, over 2,300 children participated in 3-on-3 Tournament throughout the day. This year, the tournament is being played in memory of David C. Dangerfield. Mr. Dangerfield was an active community member in youth athletic leagues, PTA, decorated NYC Firefighter and appointed by former Governor George Pataki as his bio-terrorism and health preparedness coordinator for New York State. The committee also announced a great improvement to the operation of the tournament this year in that specific times are being assigned to the different divisions so that young people can enjoy the other attractions and events at the tournament. According to Cushing, “each division has a set time to start and a set time to finish. No more waits and no more down time. Teams will have set times so our basketball stars will no longer have wait times.”
The new division times announced by the committee are: 4th, 5th and 6th grades at 9:30am, 7th and 8th at 1:30, 9th and 10th grades at 3:30pm, 11th and 12th grades at 5pm and college divisions at 6:30pm.
The Committee coordinating the 3-on-3 is looking for volunteers who want to help out in the tournament in all capacities. Over 70 volunteers work the tournament to insure a smooth day for all. Volunteers are needed for administration, court judges, and event coordinators. To volunteer your time, simply email the tournament at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Head 3-on-3 referee Marvin Lee noted that the 3-on-3 committee is also looking for extra referees to assist in the games this year. “If you want to get involved in the biggest basketball event in the area then this is the place,” said Lee adding, “all you need to do is email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Committee member Sandra Smith announced that there is not only an expanded free lunch program at the tournament, but the senior and college divisions will have a special food tent with dinner items as a new addition to the day. “We wanted to do something a little extra special for our young adults who pitch in and do so much for the tournament and community. This was our way of saying thank you!”
Committee Member Cesar Martinez also added, “the college divisions for the tournament are brand new and will probably be the most exciting level of play. The College teams will battle it out at the end of the day. The word is getting out and there is a lot of excitement.”
Registration for the tournament has begun and will continue to the day of the tournament on July 9th. To get a registration form, simply email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
