Wet, heavy snow falls across parts of northern New York

KEENE — A stretch of Route 73 in the Adirondacks has reopened after being closed for about two hours when four tractor-trailers jackknifed and blocked the road amid a storm that dumped up to a foot of wet, heavy snow across northeastern New York.

State police say an approximately 12-mile stretch of the road was closed Wednesday morning from the intersection with Route 9N in the Essex County town of Keene to just outside the village of Lake Placid.

The road reopened shortly before noon.

The National Weather Service reports 12 inches of snow in Wilmington and 7 inches in nearby Lake Placid. Moriah, on Lake Champlain's western shore, has received 9 inches.

Forecasters say the weather will clear up in time for Thanksgiving Day, with sunny skies expected and temperatures reaching into the 40s and lower 50s across the upstate region.
