YONKERS — Police say the decomposing remains found in a suitcase in Yonkers have been identified as a man's torso.
Workers found the foul-smelling suitcase while clearing brush on Monday in a wooded area near the state Thruway.
Yonkers police said Tuesday that the Westchester County medical examiner's office confirmed the remains were an adult male's body without head, legs or hands. They said age and race had not been determined.
State police joined Yonkers detectives Tuesday in searching for clues in the area where the body was found.
Detectives are hoping that DNA will help identify the victim.
In 2007, a woman's headless, armless and legless body was found on March 3 inside a suitcase that washed ashore in Mamaroneck. That victim has not been identified.
