Bank teller admits stealing $23K from customers

CANTON A 26-year-old former teller at a northern New York credit union admits stealing $23,500 from customer accounts over a six-month period to pay for her drug habit.

Ashley Ayotte pleaded guilty to grand larceny Monday in St. Lawrence County Court. In a plea agreement, Ayotte's parents will pay $23,500 in restitution and Ayotte will avoid jail time.

Judge Jerome Richards sentenced Ayotte to a year of probation, after which she can plead to a misdemeanor petit larceny charge and avoid a felony conviction.
