NY judiciary to get new chief administrator

ALBANY -- New York Chief Judge Jonathan Lippman has named a new chief administrative judge responsible for day-to-day management of the state court system starting Dec. 1.

Judge Gail Prudenti, presiding justice of the midlevel Appellate Division in Brooklyn, will succeed Judge Ann Pfau, who has held the administrative post for more than four years.

The system has a $2.5 billion budget, 3,600 state and locally paid judges and 15,000 other employees.

Prudenti says she'll explore private-public partnerships and new revenue sources in an effort to improve operations and services.

Pfau will take the new post of coordinating judge of the New York State Medical Malpractice Program. She remains an acting state Supreme Court Justice in the Commercial Division in Brooklyn.
