Candidate, Voting Rights Advocates, And Civil Rights Workers Call For Federal Government To Prosecute Campaign Worker For John Ciotti And Ask For Federal Observers To Monitor Campaign And Election

CIOTTI WORKER INTIMIDATES, HARASSES AND MAKES RACIAL SLURS AGAINST BLACK WORKERS FOR CARRIE A. SOLAGES

On October 19,2011 at 1 :00 p.m. at the Law Offices of Frederick K. Brewington located at 556 Peninsula Blvd. Hempstead, New York 11550, the Plaintiffs of the pending Federal Voting Rights Lawsuit against Nassau County, along with candidate Carrie A. Solages and other community members held a press conference to discuss and advise the public of their requests made to the United States Department of Justice.

This action follows the overt racial and abusive acts of a white campaign worker for John Ciotti who sought to intimidate, coerce and harass members of the African-American community from freely exercising their rights as protected by the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and the United States Constitution. "It is shameful that these acts were being taken on camera in Elmont, while the nation was celebrating the life of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. ,who died trying to prevent these very same forms of abuse, it is outrageous!", said Frederick K. Brewington, attorney for the group.

The Ciotti campaign worker has been fired from the Ciotti campaign.

Clear and unadulterated racism – right here, right now, on Long Island.
I have confidence in District Attorney Rice and all should allow her office, in concert with Federal authorities, to prosecute this vile act.
What can the rest of us do? I would suggest logging onto Mr. Solages’ campaign website and make a contribution - I just did. I don't live in Elmont but I do live on LI. Making a financial contribution is my way of 'putting up a sign' - a sign that supports and encourages candidates – like Mr.Solages – who have the courage and conviction to pursue elected office, regardless of their ethnicity.

Ciotti supporters have resorted to saying this is a publicity stunt for votes.

What would Martin Luther King Jr. say? No one in Elmont (except for enablers) brought this on the community. It is shameful that some would resort to "supporting quite" in the face of this outrageous attack on our community.
