Polio Virus Found in China for First Time in Twelve Years

While polio is extremely rare in the United States, Canada, and Europe, outbreaks still occur in the developing world. Polio often spreads through contaminated water and food. The disease attacks the nervous system and can paralyze or kill victims. Compared with young children, teens or adults who contract polio are more likely to experience severe side effects.
