Drug dealer gets 8 years in federal prison

ROCHESTER -- A veteran drug dealer who authorities say was in business for at least 11 years has been sentenced to a little over eight years in prison.

Stephen Przepiora, 57, of Celeron, Chautauqua County, was sentenced in federal court in Rochester Friday.

The U.S. Attorney's office says Przepiora obtained and distributed large quantities of cocaine and marijuana from 1998 until December 2009.

He was sentenced to 97 months.

Murder charge supported over suicide-help claim

LITTLE FALLS -- The daughter of a city man who died last week after he was run over by a car says she doesn't believe the driver's story that the incident was an assisted suicide.

Francis Nelson, 74, was found dead on a rural road earlier this week by a farmer. His hands and feet had been tied. Jennifer Riesel was charged with second-degree murder and is being held without bail. She told police that Nelson offered her $180,000 to run him over because he was terminally ill. Police say others have come forward with similar information.

His family thinks that's a lie. Daughter Chrissy Nelson tells the Syracuse Post-Standard there is no way her father would choose such a horrible death. She says she doesn't believe Riesel's account.

Police say man fled crash, left young children in car

CENTRAL ISLIP-- Suffolk County authorities say a man trying to get away from police crashed his car into a fence with his two young children inside, and fled on foot, leaving the kids behind.

Police tell Newsday that Cornell James was driving erratically at about 5:40 p.m. Friday and refused to stop when they tried to pull him over.

He knocked over a stop sign and crashed through a fence, then got out and ran. Police caught up to him and arrested him on charges of unlawful fleeing police, endangering the welfare of a child and drug possession.

Police say the children, ages 1 and 6, weren't hurt. His children were released to their grandmother. Police say drugs were found in the car.

It's not clear whether James has an attorney.
