With NY teen's suicide come spotlight, caution

BUFFALO -- The suicide of an upstate New York teenager has experts warning against the urge to make youngsters like him icons of the movement to end bullying.

Fourteen-year-old Jamey Rodemeyer hanged himself outside his home in suburban Buffalo last week after years of complaints about bullying at school.

His death has prompted widespread news coverage and sparked reaction from Lady Gaga. The boy was a big fan of her music.

Activists warn that such widespread coverage can glamorize suicide as an option for other bullied or attention-seeking teens.
