Video Game Technology Helps Blind People Feel Their Way Around

Mounted on a glove, a new invention called a haptic device has sensors that measure your distance from an object. As you move closer to something, rubber pads push on your hand with more and more pressure. The inventor, Steve Hoefer, developed the technology to use for video games. He later decided it didn’t make for a fun game, but it would be useful for people with visual impairments. Eye disorders, including blindness, affect one in four young people in the United States.
