ALBANY -- Former New York Gov. David Paterson and one-time rival Andrew Cuomo have shared plenty of praise both ways bantering on Paterson's radio show.
During a 20-minute interview Friday on WOR Radio, Paterson credited his successor for achievements that include a timely budget and legalizing gay marriage.
Paterson called Cuomo a great "closer," a baseball reference to the pitcher who enters a game in the last inning and nails down a win.
He said Cuomo completed 17 of Paterson's initiatives and praised him for his ability to win victories on issues that were gridlocked for years in Albany.
Paterson sought a full term in 2010, but dropped out amid ethics investigations, including one by then-Attorney General Cuomo.
Cuomo said that after legalizing gay marriage, New York is again the nation's progressive capital.
