Governor keeps popularity amid nature crises

ALBANY -- Tropical storms Irene and Lee battered upstate but failed to rattle Gov. Andrew Cuomo's popularity, according to a survey released Tuesday by the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.

Cuomo scored an overall 66 percent approval rating, higher than governors in other states surveyed by Quinnipiac -- including New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania -- and among the top echelons for previous New York governors. The poll found 86 percent of respondents approve of Cuomo's performance during and after the recent storms.

The survey was conducted Sept. 13-18 in calls to 1,016 registered voters; it has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
