Canadian boy, 14, found dead in NY's Lake Ontario

OUNGSTOWN -- The body of a 14-year-old Canadian boy has been recovered from Lake Ontario after he vanished from a War of 1812 camp re-enactment at Old Fort Niagara in western New York.

The Buffalo News reports the victim's mother and another adult were charged with misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child for giving him alcohol.

His body was found in shallow water Sunday at Old Fort Niagara. Investigators say he was last seen alive seven hours earlier about 2 a.m.

Police did not release his identity. They say there will be an autopsy.

The boy was among a group from Orillia, Ontario, taking part in a holiday weekend encampment featuring the capture of Fort Niagara, which stands on a bluff above the lake not far from Niagara Falls.
