More than 12k without power in NY after Irene

NEW YORK -- More than 12,000 New Yorkers are still without power a week after Tropical Storm Irene hit the state.

But that's down from nearly 50,000 customers waiting for electricity to be restored a day earlier.

Consolidated Edison, the city's biggest utility, reported on Sunday that all customers affected by the storm had power restored.

The hardest hit area -- on Long Island -- still has almost 8,000 clients without electricity, according to the Long Island Power Authority. That's down from 37,000 a day earlier.

Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp. says is still working on restoring service to about 3,900.

In addition, the New York State Electric and Gas in upstate New York is reporting about 750 outages, down from Saturday's 6,000.

Outages peaked at about 945,000 statewide Monday morning.
