After The Storm

irene_02ELMONT -- Tropical Storm Irene unleashed furious wind and rain on Elmont on Saturday and Sunday and sent residents scurrying for cover. The community escaped the worst fears of local officials – but many suffered significant property damage from falling trees, flying debris and flood waters.  The storm caused power outages across the community.

irene_01Elmont resident and candidate for the 3rd or 19th LD in November’s election, Carrie Solages, was out helping residents connect with local services and generally extending a helping hand around the community.

“I am glad no one was hurt and I hope for a speedy reinstatement of electricity for our residents who lost power.  I thank the local police and firemen (women) and local emergency workers for helping our residents in need.”

LIPA's website reponded to resident complaints by posting "With over a half million LIPA customers affected by the recent storm and problems reported by phone carriers, many customers have notified us about hearing busy signals when trying to report an outage to LIPA at 1-800-490-0075. If this happens to you, please try your call again. You can also report an outage online at our Storm Center.”

Senator Martins issued this statement earlier today.  "Our local fire departments, highway department and first responders have done a magnificent job. Locally, we had to deal with a lot of down wires, flooding and tree damage. Everywhere you turned, our volunteers were right there helping their fellow neighbors in a very serious situation. They not only have our heartfelt thanks, they have our admiration."

Tell us about your experience and surroundings.

Please include your street and intersection when you report a problem, and remember the problem must be reported FIRST to the utility or entity responsible for maintaining the service. Elmont Online is a means of making your situation public and that often leads to faster resolutions.

It could have been worse, thank God the tree in front of our house didn't fall. I wish we had power.
