ALBANY -- Faculty members at the State University of New York's community colleges will have a greater say on issues under a measure signed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
The measure expands from 17 to 18 the number of SUNY trustees, with the newest seat for the leader of the Faculty Council of Community Colleges, a group representing instructors at the two-year campuses.
In 2006, lawmakers created an additional board seat for Faculty Senate members, but they represent the four-year campuses.
Faculty Senate and Council members follow issues related to academics and other campus matters.
The council represents 14,000 faculty members throughout the SUNY community college system.
"This was long overdue, and it makes sense," said Assembly Democratic Majority Leader Ron Canestrari, D-Cohoes.
