ALBANY -- For the second time in a month, the Senate Democrats have lost a top spokesman.
Austin Shafran, who joined the conference just after the 2008 elections, announced he is leaving to become vice president of public affairs at Empire State Development.
"It's a privilege to work with one of New York's premier business experts, ESD President & CEO Kenneth Adams, to help promote and implement Gov. Cuomo's dynamic job creation strategy to recharge our economy," Shafran said in a statement. He replaces longtime ESD spokesman Warner Johnston.
In the Senate, Shafran was a visible combatant during the aftermath of the 2009 Senate coup. Travis Proulx, another top spokesman for Senate Democrats, resigned last month to take a position at the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities.
