NEW YORK -- A 41-year-old has been arrested on charges of murder in the stabbing death of his philanthropist mother.
Jonathan Schwartz called 911 to report the death of his mother, Barbara Schwartz on Saturday. The 67-year-old was found at her home near Park Avenue in Manhattan where she lived with her son and husband. She had been stabbed repeatedly in the neck and torso. Her son was arrested at the scene. It's not clear if he had an attorney.
Family told the Daily News of New York that the mother and son had previous arguments over money, but it's still not clear what sparked the feud. Schwartz was unemployed.
The newspaper reported that Barbara Schwartz was head of Weiden Schwartz Fischler Family Foundation. The group funds acts of philanthropy, volunteering and grant-making.
