Teens Are Drinking Less Soda, But Still Ignoring Health Risks

The U.S. Centers for Disease and Control (CDC) reports that the number of teens who drink soda or sugary drinks has gone down by 5 percent in the last year. According to a recent study, 24 percent of 11,500 high school students drank at least one can of soda each day. Sixty percent had at least one soda or sugary drink (like a sports or energy drink) each day. Drinking soda—even diet soda—can make you gain weight, and tooth decay, diabetes, heart disease, and cancer are all possible health risks from drinking too many carbonated beverages.
