Louisiana Prepares for Flooding As the Mississippi Continues to Rise

The Mississippi River in Memphis, Tennessee has been rising for days. It is currently at a near-record level of 48 feet (14.6 m). As the Mississippi continues to rush downstream, Louisiana communities are preparing to evacuate. Record flooding is predicted for Vidalia, Baton Rouge, and New Orleans. Many Louisiana residents are still recovering from the BP oil spill in 2010 and Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
