ER Visits For Ecstasy Rise 75 Percent

A new study from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) reports that medical emergencies relating to ecstasy have jumped more than 75 percent, from 10,200 emergency room visits in 2004 to 17,865 visits in 2008. More than two-thirds of the patients treated for ecstasy-related problems were between 18 and 29 years old and 18 percent were between 12 and 17 years old. Almost eight in ten ER visits involved ecstasy in combination with alcohol or other drugs.
