Alzheimer’s Disease May Be Passed From Mothers to Children, Study Suggests

A new study in the March 2011 issue of Neurology suggests people are more likely to inherit Alzheimer’s disease from their mother than their father. Study participants who had a mom with Alzheimer’s showed more brain shrinkage per year than those who had a dad with the disease or no family history of memory loss. Having a relative with Alzheimer's doesn't mean you will definitely develop the disease, and some researchers believe that the more you use your brain as you are growing up, the stronger and healthier it becomes.
