Listen Up: iPods and MP3 Players May Damage Your Hearing

ABC News recently reported that listening to music on an iPod or MP3 player at high volume for several hours a day could lead to hearing loss. A safe listening level is no more than 80 to 85 decibels, or 60 percent of a player's maximum volume--that's equivalent to the sound of a dial tone. If you raise the volume to a higher level, you can only listen safely for about an hour and a half. To play it safe, lock your volume setting so the sound doesn't increase when you switch songs, and limit your listening time when you turn up the volume.
