A Fifth of Suicidal Teens Live in Homes with Guns

According to a new study, one in five suicidal young people between ages 10 and 21 have guns in their homes. Nearly half of all teen suicides involve firearms, adding up to thousands of deaths every year. Suicide is the third leading cause of death for American teens and second leading cause of death for Canadian teens. According to recent research, 16 percent of high school students have recently considered suicide. Having access to a firearm increases the risk that a seriously depressed or troubled teen will complete suicide.
