Peter J. Schmitt (R-Massapequa), leader of the Nassau County, New York's Legislature died today of a heart attack. Schmitt represented the 12th legislative district in Nassau, which includes Massapequa, Massapequa Park, most of North Massapequa, and part of Seaford. He was elected to the Legislature in 1995 when it was first created and has represented the 12th district ever since. It is reported that he was in conference with County Executive Ed Mangano when he suffered the attack.
