A total of 74 percent of the districts were WRONG in the redistricting plan adopted by the Republican majority in the Nassau County Legislature.
The Nassau County Rules Committee has scheduled a meeting for Monday July 11, 11AM at the Nassau County Legislature, 1550 Franklin Ave., Mineola to once again attempt corrections to gross errors in their secretly and hastily crafted redistricting plan.
In their haste to Gerrymander the Legislative Districts, disenfranchise communities out of fair representation at the polls, and ignore the Voting Rights Act of 1965, GRAVE ERRORS were made by the republican majority. The republican plan now it to introduce a "Technical Adjustment", but can this really be called a technical adjustment when the plan THEY passed along strict party lines has 14 of the 19 Legislative districts wrong? That is 74 percent of the districts were WRONG in the plan adopted by the county legislature.
HERE IS WHY YOU NEED TO BE THERE ON MONDAY, July 11th:
- The map/lines they seek to amend is the amended plan that was never published in a way that allowed for public comment or review. The only public hearing was on a plan that was abandoned by the republican majority and never seen again.
- In offering this amendment to the amended and never commented on plan, one wonders if the republican drafters considered the Board of Elections notice about the impossibility of having the lines designated and in place before the petitioning process? (NOTE: IN ELMONT'S CASE, THE REPUBLICAN CANDDIDATE FOR THE "NEW BORDER PEOPLES' STRIP" 19LD COLLECTED SIGNATURES IN AN IMPROPERLY DRAWN LD. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? THE SIGNATURES ARE INVALID!)
- What is this debacle costing Nassau County taxpayers? With lawyers from everywhere including Garden City and Albany it’s amazing how a cash strapped county government is funding this ill advised, ill conceived voting rights reduction, minority vote dilution project.
