Businesses

Elmont and Dutch Broadway

Within the community, a number of commercial enterprises and light industries are located in well-defined zones. A variety of retail stores meet the many needs of our residents. Aside from providing opportunities for employment, businesses are also welcomed out of the important consideration that they generate tax revenue for the community.

The Chamber of Commerce makes every effort to ensure that residential and comercial interests are balanced.

Chamber of Commerce President's Letter

Dear Neighbor,
The Elmont Chamber of Commerce's members are a dynamic group of business owners and professionals dedicated to the well being of Elmont. We are proud to be able to offer the people of Elmont this Community Web Space.

You will find a listing of the local businesses that belong to our Chamber of Commerce. Please make note of them, because they form a group of people who are dedicated to keeping Elmont a great place to live, work and raise a family. That goal is shared by all of the community groups and recent years have found the Chamber joining forces with some of these groups to get things done.

The "Welcome to Elmont" signs are an example of what was accomplished by working with the Civic Coalition Council. Elmont is fortunate to have many strong and active Civic Associations, which serve both as a voice and a source of information for local residents. I urge all residents to get involved.

And, I ask all residents to give our local businesses the opportunity to be of service to them. The survival of the local merchant is a key issue in many communities. They are dependent, in the most part, upon the local residents for their support. And they in turn contribute to the community by hiring local people, paying real estate and sales taxes, and by supporting local organizations and civic projects. Elmont merchants offer a wide variety of products and services and are anxious to be of service to you and your family.

Yours truly,

Christopher Rosado
President

Revitalization Obstacles

Why does Tess Mittman, who owns the former Argo Movie Theater, believe that Elmont should be contented with a 99 Cent Store as their marquee "supermarket"?

What do you do about a public official that has betrayed the public trust? Many times, the official resigns in public disgrace after a news story that uncovers the scandal. Others quietly leave and are never heard of again. Some continue in office thinking that nobody will ever find out.
