Paulette, Nurse, Mentor and Friend

paulette_mullingsSIS Paulette Mullings has been a Member of the Valley Stream Baptist Church for over 26 years. She has been a true inspiration to the entire membership, adults, youths, children and the community at large. She is popularly known to us as “Sista P.”

Sis Paulette served at various hospitals working as a Pediatric Nurse providing Neonatal care. She worked at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital for seven years and began to attend Valley Stream Baptist Church during that time (1983).  In 1989, she joined St. Mary’s Hospital for children and provided two years short of two decades of service to St. Mary’s hospital before retiring in 2007.

While attending the church from 1983, she has contributed greatly to its present development. She has been a board member for several years while acting in the capacity of Trustee. She has been a faithful Member throughout her time, even through her sickness. She has led a truly dedicated and exemplary service to the work of the lord that will never be forgotten.

On Friday, October 16, 2009 Sis. Paulette was hospitalized with severe headaches. While in the hospital, she developed a stroke causing her to have difficulty moving her right arm. On the afternoon of Saturday, October 24, 2009, Sis. Paulette went home to be with the Lord. Sis Paulette’s life will always be remembered and celebrated for many years to come.

Viewing and Funeral service will be held at Valley Stream, Baptist Church Friday, October 30, at 5:00 pm, and Saturday, October 31 at 10:00am. For more details call Valley Stream Baptist Church at Tele: 516-285-7565.

"I met Paulette in 1995 when I began attending Valley Stream Baptist Church. Over time we became very good friends and she often referred to me as her "little brother". Paulette was one of the most loving and generous persons I have ever met, as well as one of the most thoughtful. She loved the Lord and was a faithful servant. Paulette will be missed in so many ways however I thank God for blessing me with her friendship and the fond memories I will always cherish."
John Brewington, DeaconValley Stream Baptist Church

"Sister Paulette was one of my inspirations.  Her prayers, encouragement and advice during my years as a member of the Elmont and Sewanhaka School Boards bolstered my spirit and served as protective cover.  She honored family. Sister Paulette, a kind a and gentle spirit,  reaches beyond the flesh and will continue to quietly move generations of people to greater achievement.  God bless her family."

I met grandma Paulette at Breezes many, many years ago. She was the mother I never had, a friend, a true inspiration in my life and in the lives of my children, Sammoy Livermore and Zenaye Brown. I miss her from the bottom of my heart. She will always have a special place in my heart. Sadly missed.
I know that my grandma is somewhere around the throne of God. May your soul rest in peace, and may God continue to bless your family and friends.

Sis. Paulette was a faithful member of the women's ministry at VSBC. She was always willing and ready to serve. On behalf of the WMF, I would like to convey condolences to the Mullings family. Sis Paulette left a lot to be desired, she was a really dedicated christian woman.

Mrs Mullings will be sorely missed. She demonstrated commitment to others in the name of a Higher power. She taught us the sanctity of human relationships. We gained dignity as we practised this code that brought us in contact a Devine Presence. She indeed has left us a legacy of Love and a heritage of Faith.

It was in coming to Valley Stream Baptist Church in 1997 that I met Sister Paulette. I will always remember how deligent and dedicated she was in serving as a trustee in the church that she was so fond of. She will also be remembered for the ministry gifts that she possessed of giving and helping. As God blessed her life, she was a blessing to many others. Sis. Paulette will be greatly missed. My prayers are with the Mullings family, may God continue to shower blessings upon them.

In 1983 when Paulette fist started attending VSBC my husband Freddie was still alive. He and Paulette started joking with each other and it wasn't long before Freddie and I became good friends with Paulette. When Freddie passed in 1993 Paulette stood with me, offering me comfort and strength and years later when I became sick she attended to me. Paulette will be sorely missed. May God continue to bless the Mullings family.

I met Paulette Mullings approximately 25 years ago when I moved to Elmont and was invited to attend Valley Stream Baptist Church. She impressed me as being a caring and devoted person who was always willing to help someone in need. Her faith in God was strong and she worshiped with a sincere heart. Paulette was an inspiration to all who knew her. May she rest in peace.

What do you do about a public official that has betrayed the public trust? Many times, the official resigns in public disgrace after a news story that uncovers the scandal. Others quietly leave and are never heard of again. Some continue in office thinking that nobody will ever find out.
