Some Schools rejected the "elmont herald"

Passed All School Budgets and Supported Public Education Advocates

Notwithstanding a very successful slander campaign waged by the elmont herald, the parents and residents of Dutch Broadway School, Alden Terrace School and Gotham Avenue School soundly rejected the "paper" and its' supporters by voting overwhelmingly to support the schools and library budgets and candidates Aubrey Phillips and Elsy Mecklembourg-Guibert in their unsuccessful bid for reelection to the Elmont School Board

Partial Results of School Vote '08

"We are not surprised by the results of the election" said Elsy Mecklembourg-Guibert as she reflected with friends and supporters at a post-election celebration. "We would have voted against the fictitious characters portrayed by the elmont herald too, had we allowed ourselves and our community to feast on the herald's diet of deceptions and lies", said Aubrey Phillips. "It evident from the numbers that the leaders among our supporters reflect a deep appreciation for the instution known as Public Education".

Aided in part by the Elmont Public Library (who removed the Elmont Online web link and kept the herald's in the summer of 2006) the owner of the herald, the mother of sitting board member L. Ferrigno and editor-in-chief of the "paper" penned editorials masqueraded as "investigative reports" then prominently displayed them on the Public Library's website. The herald's site, has for two years (see attached) deceived residents and patrons of the library by posting an article cleverly written without reference to year(2006) and without date of posting fraught with their customary misrepresentations including a claim that a district consultant worked for Phillips' consulting firm. Pressured in part by this article and the ensuing fallout, the individual left the district.

For some residents public education has suffered a setback. Elmont lost in one election it regional and state voice. Candidate, now board member elect, Anthony Maffea , ran with two objectives, the first of which is to vote to reinstate the Elmont herald as the official paper of the our school district. He is yet to explain how his primary concern (the herald) will improve education in our schools.
