A recent study by the Pew Research Center reports that a quarter of American teens ages 16 to 17 who own a cell phone admit to texting while driving. Further, nearly half of American teens ages 12 to 17 say they have been in the car with a driver who has texted behind the wheel. Drivers under the age of 20 had the highest distracted-driving fatality rate in 2008, and legislatures are taking serious action. Many states are currently introducing legislation that can fine a driver caught texting behind the wheel.
