New Lows for Republican Politics in Elmont

Elmont NY – The political season is upon us and the lawn sign wars are raging.  For several weeks local residents have observed and complained that high school aged students were unlawfully placing and removing signs from private property.

This illegal behavior reached new heights (lows) when 3rd LD incumbent and Democratic candidate Carrie Solages lawn signs were repeatedly vandalized or stolen from the property of one local resident.  The resident dutifully replaced the signs several times each time placing the new signs further from the property’s boundary and closer to their home.

“Surely no one would willfully violate their neighbor’s property for a lawn sign” said one of the residents.

She was wrong.  Day after day the perpetrator seemed emboldened or foolishly empowered as she pranced several feet off the public sidewalk and onto private property with purpose – Get those signs!

Fed up with the persistent trespassing, vandalizing, rumor mongering and general disregard for private property by the local political class the home owner recorded video and turned it over to law enforcement.   One resident upon learning of the incident said “I am very annoyed… It is a shame how some adults are allowed into and given extraordinary privilege to our school only to then manipulate our children into becoming bad neighbors and worse – law breakers.”

“Schools suspends students for less” said one parent, "... this poor child could be tainted for life if she has to check off that aweful "Have you ever been arrested?" box on a job application.

“Until the political hacks are expelled from our school midst or forced to respect our schools and the community nothing will change” said a resident and Elmont PTSA parent.

Elmont Online chose not to publish the video footage of the crimes at this time since it is still being investigated.

Really poor decision making on the part of the candidates, their campaign officials, and the youth involved. Election Democracy is not an opportunity to encourage our youth into petty crime acts.

Today, we are talking to people about sustainable economic development, because we think it's important to show support for key issues that affect our community - like places in the Elmont for young professionals to live, shop and be entertained; like keeping families closer together and rebuilding the economic and social pillars of the community.
