New Breast Cancer Screening Guidelines Create Confusion and Controversy

For years, doctors followed specific guidelines when testing women for breast cancer. In November 2009, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force issued new guidelines that recommend against routine mammograms for women younger than fifty, and teaching or performing breast self-exams. The announcement has caused anxiety and confusion, as women and health professionals are divided in their support.
