Dear Community:
I wanted to take this opportunity to thank the entire community, businesses, contributors, sponsors, friends and unsung heroes who helped make the 2010 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament a great success. The photo above is just half the group of young people and adults who helped make this day a reality for all our young people. Some 3,900 people came through the 3-on-3 and had a great time. The committee that put together the 3-on-3 worked tirelessly to make this day one to remember. They did a great job!
Events like the 3-on-3 are run on the enthusiasm, community spirit and sense of community that we all have. The volunteers who helped out, served the food, handed out drinks, cleaned up, refereed and did countless jobs made this day a success. I also want to thank our Chambers of Commerce, Kiwanis Clubs, Highlighting Success and local grocery stores King Kullen and Western Beef who helped out greatly, the over 37 businesses who lent a hand and the over 200 contributors who helped make this day so enjoyable.
As most know, there is no charge for any part of the 3-on-3. It's free for our young people. From the Soccer Quad with the NY Red Bulls, Elmont Soccer and Long Island Rough Riders, to NIKE and the Jets, UFC, Nets, Knicks, Giants, Yankees, Mets, Orlando Magic, Denver Nuggets, Steelers and NY Islanders, sports and higher education took center stage on July 9th! I also want to thank our armed forces, 5th precinct, fire departments, EMTS, Sanitary District 6 andTown of Hempstead for their special help and assistance.
The 3-on-3 committee also wants to thank Senator Dean Skelos, Senator Kemp Hannon, County Legislator John Ciotti, Councilman Ed Ambrosino, Supervisor Murray, County Executive Mangano, Congressman Rick Lazio, Councilman Jim Darcy, Legislator Vin Muscarella, Floral Park Trustee Dom Longobardi, Judge Ed McCarty, Receiver of Taxes Don Clavin, Town Clerk Mark Bonilla, Joseph G. Cairo, Jr., Assemblyman Bob Barra, Assemblyman Tom Alfano, Superintendents Al Harper, Dr. Lynn Pombonyo, Dr. Liz Lison, Patrick Manley and Principal Walter Aksionoff for their help, support and assistance every step of the way.
Last but not least, this day was dedicated to a man that touched the lives of many young people in our greater community. David Dangerfield was a special man that was loved, respected and admired for his dedication to our communities, the NYC Fire Department and our young people. The presence of his entire family who traveled to Long Island from around the country was a great honor for everyone.
Again, thank you players, spectators and all those whose special efforts great and small made this day so special for our young people. Planning for next year's tournament will start this late fall, if you want to get involved, simply email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
