High Culture in Elmont

The home of Elsy Mecklembourg-Guibert was transformed dsc02241.jpginto a Center of High Culture on Sunday June 22 when nearly one hundred people from several states and our capital city Albany gathered to hear writer, workshop leader, and author of "The Heart to Forgive: Reclaiming Our Relationship After Infidelity" Mimi Gabriel, describe her real-life experience with infidelity.

In unmistakable Guibert style, songs, poetry readings and history lessons preceded the main attraction "The Heart to Forgive". After Ms Gabriel's initial presentation a scrumptious dinner,dsc02159.jpg vibrant multi-lingual conversations and fellowship pleased the stomachs and minds of those in attendance.

Everyone delighted when Ms Guibert summoned all to a twilight talk with Mimi on her lawn. The packed audience then participated in a vibrant interactive conversation with the author. Her central themes "saving marriage" and "helping others cope with infidelity" were repeatedly challenged as she shared stories of her seven-year ordeal. One member of the audience shared a story of liberation from her husband through divorce while others emphatically said, "not me … I would have...…"

dsc02299.jpgIt is evident that Mimi is deeply spiritual and called upon her faith and an affair of the own (chapter 12) to help her through the difficult years. Though her husband Les was not present, an earlier interviewer stated "the perspective of Mimi's husband, Les Gabriel, will help you to understand why a partner might stray and, most importantly, how a couple can restore their relationship through honesty and forgiveness (which is extremely difficult)."

Her book is for men and women whose lives were disrupted by infidelity. The book can help readers cope with the stress of infidelity and I recommend reading it. By the evening's end the audience commended Mimi's noble defense of the intuition, marriage. It is easy to see why she sees herself as '"the happiest woman I [she] knows".

dsc02311.jpg A portion of the proceeds from the event was donated to charities in Elmont and Haiti. Elmont On-line invite you to look at some wonderful pictures taken that evening and if you so desire post a comment.
