This hearing was important for all rider

This hearing was important for all riders of Long Island Bus. It brought Democrats and Republicans together in an effort to listen to the people. The testimony was very moving and I was particularly pleased to hear from the people of Elmont, Great Neck, Port Washington, New Cassell and greater Nassau communities during this important people's hearing. One of the most important pieces of information that was given out at the hearing was the Nassau County Bus Rider Bill of Rights. It really says it all. The right to have the same level of bus service, the right to have the same fares and free transfers, that right to have equipment that is modern and the right to have a transparent and responsive service can never be compromised. I'm pleased I was able to listen to the people and hear their concerns. Too often, leaders don't take the time to sit and listen. I will continue to offer my support and assistance to make sure our bus service is protected. Bus service is not a luxury. It is a necessity. I'm also heartened to know clearly that the decision Senator Fuschillo and I made to make sure that the buses keep rolling with Senate funding was not only the right thing to do, it was critical to the health, welfare and economic stability to our communities.
