Please get the streets of Elmont CLEANED UP - they look disgraceful!
Terribly unkempt residential properties, businesses that do not take care of the property right in front of their doors & openly-visible yards, garbage blowing around the neighborhood & collecting curbside and at sewer gates, residents putting their garbage curbside early in the afternoon the DAY BEFORE pick-up, etc. Does one need to live on the North Shore in order to enjoy a clean, respectable living environment? I am not referring to income level, as I realize everyone has different, and sometimes difficult, circumstances. I am referring to being required to demonstrate a certain, BASIC level of respect for the neighborhood you (and your neighbors) reside in.
And then (possibly my personal 'favorite') there's the constant BUSINESS SOLICITATION on cars, front laws, railings and stuck inside front doors that end up blowing all over town, adding to the trash flow. On any given day, I collect and throw out at least three fliers, business cards or similar ephemera from my windshield, mailbox and, most annoyingly, my front door. Where are the laws concerning this door to door solicitation?? Other towns have such laws - we deserve nothing less!
And the town ignores us as well - broken sidewalks, giant potholes
unkempt grass lining curbs, etc.
This was once a vital, beautiful community and I see NOTHING being done to honor and further foster that time-earned reputation. Elmont has become a joke. Reach out to your community with these issues and ask for help if necessary. Stop telling us what little you are doing while I come home every night to the bitter reality of a block that's slightly uglier than the one I left that same morning.
