Do You Know These Interlopers?

Please upgrade your installation of Flash. Elmont Online requires versions 9.0.115 or higher.

These two interlopers parked their SUV and proceeded to have a public smokes and drinks party on the streets of Elmont.  Residents called the police and to their dismay the police never responded.

For over 90 minutes these two interlopers used the public streets to party.  On several occasions they were observed replenishing both drink and smoke.  The resident who shot this video remarked "They are going to jump into that large vehicle and drive off - putting the entire community at risk because they are driving high and drunk."

With Mangano and Nassau Republicans in the County Legislature busy selling off public assets like Long Island Bus, civilianizing the Police, etc. the streets in communities like Elmont are left to this kind of lawlessness.

Residents took appropriate action by calling the police.  They, the police, never responded.  Clearly, we must find out why Elmont residents continue to see dramatic decreases in public services as lawn signs and banners from politicians seeking re-election sprout like weed across the community.  This can't be right, uh?

To the two “"gentlemen", you know you are wrong.  Be better examples and if you are not better examples - in fact, if you are the culprits you portray yourselves to be, then, take your mess elsewhere.”

The person taking the video may have been more effective if they confronted the two. I know, this can be dangerous, but if there was support from other neighbors then this would have been effective.

I have lived in Elmont for only two years. During that time I have had to go to neighbors having very loud parties late at night to ask them to tone it down 5 times. I also called the police on 3 occasions when I did not get any results. One night I went for a short drive and encountered 5 loud parties that could be heard blocks away, going on after midnight. Additionally, there would frequently be cars parked outside my house with people sitting in them for hours at a time. Once, when it was obvious that they were smoking pot I approached them. One of them pointed down the block and said it’s OK because he lives down there. I politely suggested that if he wants to continue what he is doing then it would be more OK if he would do it there and not in the street.

Well, first we all need to recognize that these types of behavior are not acceptable. The residents of Elmont should realize that they should not be having loud parties late at night which infringe on the rights of everyone else in the neighborhood. Smoking, drinking in public and other assorted behaviors are not something they are entitled to do at their whim. The neighbors do need to come out and support one another and let these people know that Elmont is not the place to behave this way.

If anyone needs support to confront these people, I am willing to stand with you at any time.

Animals! I take exception and I suspect many would. You know Mike in the "good old days" crosses burned on the lawns of certain Elmont residents too.

Since when is it wrong to seek justice for everyone including those who meet "your" definition of "animal"? The residents who reported this incident are not thugs. They did the responsible thing.

FYI, I was chased by bat welding thugs who like you, probably saw an "animal" riding a bike through "their neighborhood".

I hope you develop beyond your "natural inclination" though your use of the word "animal" is duly noted.

In the good old days of Elmont the people who lived on the block would come out of their houses and beat these two animals so bad they would never step over tyhe County line. Today if the same happend this "newspaper" would be leading the charge for justice for them.

Stop complianing they most likely live in Elmont!

5th Precinct Update 3.27.2012

Legislator SolagesAfter the disastrous move by the County Executive and the Republican Majority to close half of the police precincts in Nassau County, the Democratic caucus was successful in pushing Ed Mangano's back against the wall so that he gave us a signed guarantee that there would not be one less patrol car in any neighborhood. The agreement additionally stated that there would be more law enforcement personnel in all of the policing centers.

As Newsday reported, “Democrats also demanded that the amount of borrowing be cut nearly in half from the $50 million requested by Mangano, saying the $26.5 million would cover the cost of officers expected to retire."

The Art of Listening

Senator MartinsLike many of you, I’m up early, reading the news and making breakfast before the rest of the family wakes up. Later, I manage to grab a few minutes to get ready between my wife and four children before embarking on daddy’s a.m. taxi service. This day, I’m a little late to an 8 a.m. meeting with union officials to discuss issues impacting them, but I’m sure I’ll make up the time somewhere in the day’s schedule.  By 9:30 a.m., I’m at a grammar school in another part of the district explaining how a bill becomes law to 200 fourth graders. They prove remarkably well-informed and pursue an analysis as to what recent legislation is likely to work and what they believe will not. I take mental notes.
