By 8:30 AM this morning blacktop was appearing on the streets in various Elmont Neighborhoods. If this is not the case on your block or in your civic area let us know. It does appear the town may have gotten it right this time. Kudos may be in order. On the other hand, decisions to close Elmont and Sewanhaka Schools were made as early as 10:00 PM last night. What is that all about? The storm predictions were dire, but it looks like the municipalities and towns were better prepared. Businesses are open, employees are off to work and children are out of school today. Is delayed opening still an option for public schools?

After the disastrous move by the County Executive and the Republican Majority to close half of the police precincts in Nassau County, the Democratic caucus was successful in pushing Ed Mangano's back against the wall so that he gave us a signed guarantee that there would not be one less patrol car in any neighborhood. The agreement additionally stated that there would be more law enforcement personnel in all of the policing centers.
