Ciotti hosts Fundraiser at Sand Castle

FRANKLIN SQUARE, NY – Republican County Legislator, John Ciotti held a fundraising event at the Sand Castle on Franklin Ave in Franklin Square yesterday.  It was grand showing of republican cohesion.  The food was delightful; the company was entertaining; the affair was well attended and in general a textbook example of how to organize a political rally.

In attendance were residents from throughout the 3rd Legislative District.  Several Elmont residents including Norma Debartolo of the Elmont School District, Mabel Johnston from GYO, and Claudine Hall of the Jamaica Square Improvement League, Scott Cushing and several members of the Annual 3on3 committee were present among the guests.

Elected and appointed officials were also in attendance.  Jo and Ed Ra, Counsel to Kate Murray and Assembly member respectively; Councilman Edward A. Ambrosino, James Darcy, Nicholas Famiglietti and freshman senator, Jack Martins were in attendance.  The legendary Ex-assemblyman from the 21st assembly district Tom Alfano was also on hand and received a standing ovation when he was introduced.  Many resident s still lament the loss of the outstanding Assemblyman, “he was the glue that kept Elmont together”.

Speakers included Jo Ra, who introduced many of those in attendance.  Mr. Joe Cairo was in customary form; he rallied the troops and commended the team that elected Senator Martins to the senate last year.  He contextualized the importance of Senator Martins’ election by noting that Senator Martins is the 32nd vote – the vote gave Republicans control of the New York State senate and the vote that made Senator Dean Skelos majority leader.

“The election of Senator Martins gave Long Island a voice in Albany” said Mr. Cairo. Before Senator Martins’ election “decision in Albany were made by NYC representatives” often with the help of then state Senator Craig Johnson.   Johnson lost his reelection bid to Jack Martins by less than 500 votes.

Senator Martins’ remarks were brief.  He wished John Ciotti well and encouraged those in attendance to help re-elect him.  “John is fighting for us everyday” said Martins.

John Ciotti remarks look back over his years of service.  “Anne’s instructions are simple” he said “when a constituent calls my office with a need … the only concern is how we help them”.  He continued “party affiliation is never” a concern for Anne, his office manager. The audience erupted with applauds.  Anne's work helping constituents extends from the very personal, giving of her time and resources beyond the call of duty, to connecting groups to various town and county services.

The event ended with the singing of “God bless America” by Mickey Kane and other fine Republican voices.

Friday, September 16, Ciotti’s Democratic opponent for the 3rd LD, Carrie Solages, is hosting community residents and dignitaries at a meet and greet fundraising event.  EoL will be on hand to report back to the community about that event.

5th Precinct Update 3.27.2012

Legislator SolagesAfter the disastrous move by the County Executive and the Republican Majority to close half of the police precincts in Nassau County, the Democratic caucus was successful in pushing Ed Mangano's back against the wall so that he gave us a signed guarantee that there would not be one less patrol car in any neighborhood. The agreement additionally stated that there would be more law enforcement personnel in all of the policing centers.

As Newsday reported, “Democrats also demanded that the amount of borrowing be cut nearly in half from the $50 million requested by Mangano, saying the $26.5 million would cover the cost of officers expected to retire."

The Art of Listening

Senator MartinsLike many of you, I’m up early, reading the news and making breakfast before the rest of the family wakes up. Later, I manage to grab a few minutes to get ready between my wife and four children before embarking on daddy’s a.m. taxi service. This day, I’m a little late to an 8 a.m. meeting with union officials to discuss issues impacting them, but I’m sure I’ll make up the time somewhere in the day’s schedule.  By 9:30 a.m., I’m at a grammar school in another part of the district explaining how a bill becomes law to 200 fourth graders. They prove remarkably well-informed and pursue an analysis as to what recent legislation is likely to work and what they believe will not. I take mental notes.
