(ELMONT, NY) – Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages (D-Elmont) sponsored a well-attended health and wellness forum at Elmont Memorial Library on Thursday, April 26, 2012.
The forum, which took place between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., helped educate residents about overall physical and mental health, and increase awareness about health services.
Residents were glad to take part in free health screenings, including blood pressure and mammography.
"I am so happy to be here", said one resident, "I was laid off a month ago and needed to followup on on some testing my doctor recommended and here I was able to make arrangements to get it for free"
Representatives from local chapters of national health care organizations – such as Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC), Elmont Health Center and LI Cares – were present. Visitors of their booths received important health information and took part in giveaways.
The Attorney General’s office was also on hand to distribute information for senior citizens.
Other features of the health forum included stroke awareness resources, massage therapy and health insurance and financial advice.
