How can there ever be change in politics when you see and vote for the same names over and over again from both parties? People may want or even expect change in Government; but people will never see any meaningful change voting for the same name politician. Both political parties have become a franchise with the same product being sold to the public over and over.
It's time for term limits, salary caps, caps on special interest lobbyist and bringing government back to the people for the people. The Democratic and Republican parities have become a family business and no one outside the family need apply. The party bosses will pick what is best for the town, county, state and federal government. Isn't it time for the people to take back our Government? I find it amazing how people complain about taxes and yet vote for the same people.
I read a letter in Newday the other day and a person who I know complained about the Teachers and Police salaries. This person from Suffolk County put 130 thousand for police and 100 thousand for teachers in his school district. He wrote that we were missing the larger problem by focusing on Peter Schimts proposed 47 percent pay increase and not on the teachers and police salaries. First, the Nassau County majority leader had a change of heart and didn't take the unconscionable pay increases. Why should we focus on the teachers and police salaries? We vote for school boards and legislators who are responsible for spending, budgets and salaries. The blame should go directly to the people who are responsible. And if school boards are no match for the powerful teachers union, then it's time for change. We can't keep making excuses every time we read about abuse in our taxing districts.
- When we read about a Sanitation commissioner in Oceanside earning over 200 thousand;
- When we read about water commissioners being paid to play golf or getting paid for running a water district with no employees;
- When we read about a Father and Son Water commissioners, and the Father has home paid for by the tax payers;
- When we read we are spending over 30 million for School Superintendents on Long Island;
- When we read about people living in Gordon Heights paying 25 hundred for fire services or almost 3 times the amount compared to their neighbors;
- When we read about the lawyers in the school districts abusing the system.

After the disastrous move by the County Executive and the Republican Majority to close half of the police precincts in Nassau County, the Democratic caucus was successful in pushing Ed Mangano's back against the wall so that he gave us a signed guarantee that there would not be one less patrol car in any neighborhood. The agreement additionally stated that there would be more law enforcement personnel in all of the policing centers.
