Local Republicans are champing at the bit and betting that the Working Families Party will again aid in their plan to grow their foot print in Long Island Politics. Two years ago the Working Families Party, a “progressive” party by rhetoric, helped elect Republican Ed Ra to the NY State Assembly when they supported Mimi Pierre-Johnson in the general election. Some may recall that Ms Pierre-Johnson, the Democratic Party candidate, was defeated in the Democratic Primary by grassroots candidate, Patrick Nicolosi.
By supporting Pierre-Johnson after her loss to Nicolosi the Working Families Party split the progressive vote in the then 21st Assembly District and guaranteed Republican Ed Ra's victory. Ra won by nearly the same number of votes (approximately 2500) that Pierre-Johnson garnered.
Ra then voted against nearly every piece of progressive legislation including public education, voting rights and local economic development.
This year as Democrats decide on who will represent them in the general election for the newly Gerrymandered 22Assembly District all eyes are on the Working Families Party.
Will they play spoiler for the Conservative - Tea Party – Tax Crap - Republican conglomerate – AGAIN?
