Elmont, Feb. 10, 2012 – A Collaboration of Song and Spoken WordElmont Online and Highlighting Success will be hosting its Ninth Annual EOL Black History Month Celebration. The event is co-sponsored by The Center for Black, African and Caribbean Studies at Adelphi University, Senator Jack Martins and Invest in Elmont. Featured performances include internationally acclaimed jazz artist, T.K. Blue; sensational rap and spoken word group, One4Five; the students of the Elmont Elementary and Sewanhaka Central Schools and more. This two-part observance of Black History Month will be held Feb. 12, 2012 in the Elmont Memorial Library Theater located at 700 Hempstead Turnpike, Elmont, NY 11003. Admission is Free and open to the public.
The first part of the event features an annual round-table discussion beginning at 1 p.m. and ending at 2:30 p.m. where Elmont Residents gather to discuss matters pertinent to community development and quality of life. Round-table panelists include Civil Rights attorney, Frederick Brewington; New York State Senator Jack Martins; Professor Sandy Figueroa of Hostos Community College; Prfessor Robert Smith of Baruch College, School of Public Affairs, and Carl Achille, owner of "The Shop" and co-founder of Invest in Elmont.
